Role of the Agile PMO

Agile PMO could take on many critical roles to support the Agile teams. The role and scope of the Agile PMO is essential for its implementation success. Therefore, Privilege MS will be engaged with clients to articulate the Agile project team structure, and Agile PMO’s roles and responsibilities.

Here are some of the roles that Agile PMO could take.

1.     Strategic Alignment

2.     Stakeholder Engagement & Support

Agile PMO needs to be a service provider in coaching, mentoring and training team members. Coaching for Key stakeholders will help the organization to adopt to the Agile mindset. As for the mentoring and training, PMO could provide training to team members on Agile values and principles.

4.     Business Assessment

Supporting PMOs often take on the role of collecting assessment data about Agile projects for the purpose of evaluating the maturity of Agile principles and mind-set. This is to be shared with the project team members as feedback about how well they are progressing in their agile journey. In addition, Agile PMO would share feedback with senior management about what else management needs to do to better support the Agile team.

5.     Development of lean standards

·         Modeling Agile values: Agile PMO needs to adopt the Agile values and principles to implement PMO practice. This will make it a model for the organization.

·         Standard Development and Implementation: Agile PMO can develop and implement standard for the purpose of improving efficiency and business results. For example, developing templates for user stories, tools for wireframes, and samples for burn-up and burn-down charts.

6.     Portfolio management

·         Agile PMO can manage the inflow of projects using Project Portfolio principles on iterative basis.
