The framework integrates analytical, cognitive, behavioural coaching strategies to create the level of self-awareness to drive transformational change. This is done in guiding coachees to go through three critical stages:

Awareness
Guide coaches to be aware of the behavioral approaches that are hindering their performance, and accept that awareness. This could be achieved through feedback assessment, leadership evaluation tools, or insightful reflection and analysis with the coach.
Understanding
This is to guide coaches to understand the cause of their behavioral approaches, and accept the cause and effect of the findings. This is the most significant stage to help coaches understand and accept their behavior at the logical and emotional level.
Acting Differently

Leadership coaching competency framework

To establish the assessment baseline against which participants’ progress are measure, Privilege MS adopts five leadership types to perform the leadership assessment for participants. The five leadership types are:

  5. Directive leader

Each participant will be evaluated on the scale of 1 to 5 where, 1=Least desirable trait, 5=Most desirable trait. Listed below is a summary of the leadership types.

Types of leadership

Self-awareness Leadership
A leader who is aware of both his mood and his thoughts about that mood; and the impact of these thoughts on self and others. As well as a leader who develops emotional maturity by reducing his / her level of defense mechanism, and imaginary or distorted thoughts, and overcoming his / her emotional symptoms.
Visionary / Transformational Leadership
Charismatic leader relies on his personality, and his/her inspirational qualities. A transformational leader who gets people motivated to take risks, and strive for higher level goals.
Achievement-Oriented Leadership
A leader who manipulates people to obtain their compliance. A leader who inspires people and empower them to accomplish team goals, & give them autonomy.
Supportive / Participative Leadership
A leader who is approachable and empathetic, and show concern for employees. Democratic leader encourages people to participate in decision making.
Directive Leadership
A leader who is clear in establishing performance objectives for his / her team, and provides structure perceptions of their roles.

Leadership Coaching Phases and workflow

Privilege MS follows a simple Leadership Coaching development phases: Engagement, Alignment, Coaching Delivery, and Measurement.

The coaching engagement could be accelerated to a three month period, or to a longer period to allow coachees to practice and reflect on their awareness.

Detailed steps

A Define Leadership Coaching goals, scope and outcome (desired stated)
B Conduct 360-assessment feedback about coachee. The purpose of this assessment is to understand the leadership patterns and habits for the coachee. The assessment will become the baseline against which the post coaching assessment will be made to compare progress and benefit
C Develop and agree upon the Leadership Coaching scope, and strategy to meet the desired outcome.
D Conduct Leadership Coaching session with participants. Coaching strategies will be applied to help participants become self-aware of their leadership approaches, understand and cause, and discover the actions they need to take.
E After the completion of half of the one-on-one coaching sessions, the coach will perform a health check assessment. This is completed by getting feedback from the nominees from the first Leadership Assessment exercise. The coach will compare original assessment with the health check assessment, and produce a report of the improvement.
F Repeat step D.
G Coach will conduct the final assessment session, and will review it with coachee. Coach and coachee will reflect on the progress and commitment to sustainable change.

Assessment measurement strategy

Effective Leadership Coaching is founded on the realistic assessment to help coachee becomes aware of what he / she needs to do differently after the coach shares the assessment report with coachee. The Assessment Measurement data becomes the bases against which future performance changes is measured. The future measurement is translated to KPI business impact, trend and ROI reports. Privilege MS applies the V-Model to collect and validate data.
